Hello Family, Friends and Fans,
For a while now I have tossed around the idea of starting a blog. I have wondered if it would be worth it. What will I talk about? Will people want to read it? Am I nuts for taking on yet another thing in my already crazy, busy life?
Well...I guess I am nuts because here it it! My very first blog. I have obviously decided to center this blog around photography. My journey, my sessions, my failures, my success...all of the things.
When I am photographing someone I want them to try and let their guard down, to be vulnerable and show me real emotion. Being someone who feels wildly uncomfortable in front of a camera, I realize that this is a lot to ask from someone I just met. This blog will give you a peek into my world. A place where I will share the joys and experiences of sessions past and present. I will give tips and tricks I have learned along the way. A place where you can come to get to know me. A place where I will sometime be the vulnerable one. Lets start by telling you how it all began...
My photography journey started in college. I attended DePaul University in Chicago, IL...my beautiful home town. Art was always a huge part of my life. For many years my focus was on painting and print making. I ended up taking a few photography courses along the way and realized pretty fast that I felt a special kind of power when I held a camera. I discovered that I loved being able to capture the raw emotions of the people around me and how amazing it was to freeze these fleeting moments in time. I discovered this love in my last year at my university. I had a small digital camera that I invested in which was what I could swing on my "Ramen noodle budget" It served me well for many years and I was able to develop my "creative eye".
Fast forward to 2011...My now husband had just moved to Colorado and we were off for a 6 week backpacking trip through Southeast Asia. We were gifted a Canon Rebel so that we could better capture and preserve the memories of this amazing adventure about to be had. Needless to say, I fell instantly in love with the camera. It pretty much was glued to my hand for the whole 6 weeks. Once we returned to the states my photography journey started to gain momentum. I began to take photos of anything and everything around me. I started asking friends If I could photograph them and thanks to them (you know who you are) I began to build a portfolio. It have since continued to grow and fully submerse myself into the passion. I now find myself here...A business owner, photographer and now blogger...I never expected any of this but I can not think of anything I would rather do. It is a magical thing to discover your true passion and once you do, you realize that nothing fills your soul in the same way. There is nothing better then hearing that I have provided someone with images that they will cherish for a lifetime. I LOVE what I do and this is only the begining of what I know will be one of the most amazing, empowering and important adventures I will ever take. I would love for you to ride a long with me via this blog! If you made it this far, you are awesome! Your love and support is appreciated beyond words.
Until next time...
Focus on what feed your soul!
