FLASH HOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY
2019 WEDDING PREP GUIDE
First I would just like to say how happy I am to be documenting your wedding day!!!
This is such a special time in your life and a day that will be looked back on for generations. I know just how important these photos will be and I take so much care and pride in making sure you will LOVE your photos!
I am they type of person who likes to know what o expect and how to prep for things…So I made this guide for individuals like me :) Also, I believe preparation plays a big roll in keeping everything running nice and smooth.
We will also be having a phone and in-person chat to discus your overall vision for your day. I love to do that after you read through the guide so you can be ask any additional questions that were not covered in the guide.
Before we dive in, I would love to tell you a little bit about myself and my photography background….
I have always had a deep love for the arts. I graduated from DePaul University with a degree in studio Art where I took a variety of art and photography classes…that later lead to my passion for photography. I started Flash House Photography in 2014 a few years after I moved to Colorado from Chicago. I began as family and couple photographer as well as an assistant shooter at weddings. I started shooing weddings as lead photograph in 2015 and it has been an amazing experience! I generally shoot around 5-10 weddings a year. I personally choose to limit myself to 10 weddings a year because it gives me the opportunity to shoot a few styles of photography. In addition to shooting weddings I also own a gorgeous Boudoir photography studio in Fort Collins. I am currently focusing on Weddings, Boudoir and Maternity. I absolutely LOVE what I do and I am so blessed to get to document so many amazing millstone moments in people’s lives.
I am so passionate about weddings, love and all the beautiful emotional moments! I feel so lucky that this is my profession. As a wedding photographer, I get to meet an work with most amazing couples. Its a such and honor to get to capture one of the most important days in their relationship. I love getting to connect with and understand the vision of my couples so that I can do my best to have that reflect through their images.
We know weddings can be stressful at times, but rest assured that photography is not something you’ll need to worry about. On your wedding day, you can expect to have fun and enjoy the entire experience You are in good hands, and we will work to capture all of the big - and small - things that you want to remember about your day.
My shooting style is what I like to refer to as “relaxed portraiture”I love to focus a lot on the natural moments. I will do posed shots during the family portraits and some of you together as a couple, but I think the sweetest shots are always the un-posed, raw emotions of the day. So please be your beautiful and authentic selves!
YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION
I love engagement sessions! I feel that having an engagement session is very important, as it allows us all to get to know each other before your big day. During your session, we’ll have an opportunity to learn more about you as a couple, and you two will also get to know us and experience shooting with us prior to the wedding day.
My shooting style is very relaxed and casual, so I like to tell my couples to think if this session as a date. Have fun, and let your love language shine!
Don’t know how to pose? Don’t worry – I will help pose you and give direction so you don’t have to stress about that.
A question we often hear is “do you recommend that we do a first look?” This is something that has become increasingly popular, and a first look can provide a beautiful and intimate moment that makes for come special images as well. Choosing to do, or not do, a first look is a personal decision, and it is up to each couple to decide if this is something they would like to do. This is your day and it should be a reflection of you as a couple and showcase the special love you share.
Here are the top reasons why many couples choose to do a first look:
• It is a private, special moment between only you two. It is a change to really take in the moment in an intimate way.
• Seeing each other earlier in the day can help to release any stress, nerves, and anxiety you may experience before the ceremony.
• Your ‘walking down the aisle moment’ is still just as special and emotional, as a first look does not take away from that moment.
• A first look will allow for more time & locations for photos of you as a couple, and will allow you to enjoy more of your day with your guests. It also allows more time for group images and allows you to experience more of your reception.
*If you would like to do a parent first look, those are also incredibly sweet moments and beautiful images. Please let me know if this is something you are wanting to do.
A lot of our wedding couples ask us if we need a “shot list” for their wedding day. We understand that you have a lot of important things you want captured, but you can trust that we will capture all of those for you. The only “list” that we ask for is the family portrait list.
Beyond portraits, we will plan to capture all of the typical/standard shots throughout your wedding day – first kiss, first dance, groom with each groomsman, etc. However if there are any “special” shots that we should know about, beyond these traditional images, then you are welcome to let us know. For example, if you will have “something old” from your great grandma on the day of the wedding, please let me know so that we can be sure to capture a photo of that for you.
Every wedding is unique, so we will create a custom photography timeline that is tailored specifically to you. We will work together with you and go over the details of your event to provide you with the most efficient use of your time with us.
Here are some of the contributing factors and some things we will discuss as we are creating your photography timeline:
• Would you like some getting ready photos?
• Key Event Times – Mainly ceremony and reception start and end times.
• Are you doing a first look?
• When is the last big reception event? (Cake cutting, garter etc…)
If you already have a draft of a wedding event timeline, please send that over as soon as possible. We will review it and make sure that there is adequate time provided for your photography, and ensure that your wedding day is laid out in a smooth & efficient manner.
Portraits are certainly an important part of your wedding day, and we want to be sure that we capture all of the significant people in your life who will be present. As we mentioned, this is the only ‘list’ that we ask you to provide. Please reference our “Family Portrait List” form that we will send over in another email.
We ask for this list so that we can be as efficient as possible on the wedding day and not lose any valuable time by having to look for family members. Please send your list over to us no later than 2 weeks before the wedding.
THE LITTLE THINGS
We understand just how much time and effort you have put into making this day so special. We also know that sometimes the most memorable parts of a wedding day can be found in the little details. We will work to capture all of these special details that you have included in your day.
Here are a few specific things we wanted to mention about your details:
BRIDAL ACCESSORIES: Please have all of your “bridal details” in a spot ready for us during the getting ready shots. This includes anything special that you’ll want photos of – shoes, jewelry, garter, etc.
RECEPTION DETAILS: The best time to take detail shots of the room set-up is the 30 minutes or so before the ceremony is going to start. At this point we typically are done with all pre-ceremony shots and we will allow the bridal party a little time to chat with arriving guests, or just relax. So we ask that you please make sure to work with your coordinator or whoever is setting up the reception, so that it is ready to go at this time. Of course this only works if the reception site is at same location as the ceremony; if not, we will do the detail shots as soon as we get to the reception venue, during the cocktail hour.
VIEWING YOUR IMAGES
After your wedding day, we know that the next biggest question on your mind will be: “When do we get to see our photos?” You will receive your complete wedding gallery in just 4 weeks! We know you can’t wait to see your images, and we can’t wait to share them with you as well. We promise, it will be worth the wait.
• The day after the wedding, you will see a sneak peek posted on our Facebook page to get a glimpse into the awesomeness and hold you over until you return from your honeymoon.
• Once back from your honeymoon, we will be ready to lift your “back to the real world” spirits with your wedding being posted on our blog.
• We will then continually review the entire set of photos and edit each and every photo to perfection, in our signature classic & timeless photo edits before posting the final images into your gallery. Because I take time to individually edit and go through each image of your day, this can take anywhere from 5-8 weeks.
• When your gallery is ready, we will send you an email announcement with the website link and password to view and download your images. You will also have the option to order professional prints directly through your online gallery.
You will also be receiving a flash drive in the mail so you will always be able to easily access your images.
ALBUMS AND PRODUCTS
Without a doubt, the best way to enjoy your wedding images is through your custom, professionally-designed wedding album.
When you open your wedding album you will be taken right back through each moment of your big day, in a cohesive storytelling manner. We take the initial lead in designing your album so that you have nothing at all to stress about, and then you can simply review and make any revisions to the design to ensure it is designed to perfection.
These are not consumer-grade albums that can easily be damaged; your wedding images deserve the best, and that is what we provide. Our albums are hand-crafted and come with a lifetime manufacture warranty. Quite simply, our albums are made to last a lifetime, so that you can cherish and share your wedding story for generations to come!
In addition to albums, I also offer a variety of other products including, photo boxes, wall canvases, & metal, wood and acrylic wall art. I will happily go over all products in detail once you receive your gallery.
THE UNPLUGGED CEREMONY OPTION
Ok, I am about to get real with this one…in recent years this has become an issue big enough that it get’s it’s own category in this guide! I have had to maneuver around guests and their cell phones at many weddings. I have had shots blocked because of this issue and there is nothing I can do to fix those images. I have literally had to ask guest to move out of the isle so I can get shots the “first kiss”. It is not ideal and it make my job MUCH harder. While I understand that your guests are excited, its important to know that this can compromise the images that I work hard to capture.
I have had a number of couples choose to have an “unplugged” ceremony to avoid the possibility of having images compromised. If you decide to go unplugged, you can assure your guests that you will get gorgeous images from your photographer and they will be able to see and enjoy those.
TREASURE THE MOMENTS
One thing we hear over and over from our clients is how quickly the wedding day flies by. You’ve spent months planning this day, and when it arrives, it often becomes a blur in the midst of all of the excitement.
Our encouragement to you is to try to stop and treasure the moments throughout the day. Enjoy each moment, and remember that we are there as your storytellers, to capture all of those things that you will want to look back on and remember. You can enjoy your day - we will tell your story.
